POETRY LIBRARY  EVENTS

During London Literature Festival a collection of artists will be using the Saison Poetry Library to exhibit work inspired by the themes of this year’s festival.

ART ON POETRY

ALEXANDRE BETTLER
Wednesday 6 – Sunday 31 July

Swiss artist Alexandre Bettler transforms the photocopier, an office automaton, into a poetry machine, loaded with pre-printed text from State of the Nation, a central theme of this year’s Literature Festival.

OONA GRIMES
Bricolage
Wednesday 6 – Sunday 31 July

Following her recent collaborations with Iain Sinclair and Fabian Peake, Oona Grimes plunders Southbank Centre’s national archives. Like a demented Caroll or Lear on speed, she appropriates words or phrases from poems. As a result the collision and slippage of words, liberated from reason, manifest as playful bricolage discarded throughout the library.

ALEX CZINCZEL
Stop Frame Animation
Wednesday 6 – Sunday 31 July

Following Bob Cobbing’s cut-up instructions, German book artist Alex Czinczel’s stop-frame animation re-enacts The Young Hedgehog (1956). Taking clippings from The Observer, Czinczel re-contextualises Cobbing’s poetry in relation to current affairs.
