London-based authors from around the world explore how encounters between new and host communities influence their views of one another, and of the world around them. The writers include Vesna Maric, an emerging and witty voice from Bosnia; Xiaolu Guo, a widely acclaimed Chinese novelist; and Choman Hardi, a well established Kurdish poet. They discuss what choices they make as writers to reflect their new homelands and the different meanings of being a migrant or exiled writer. Music on the night is provided by Abdullah Chhadeh, a Syrian virtuoso who after spending his childhood in a refugee camp in the Golan Heights, has gone on to become the Arab world’s most innovative qanun player.
The event is chaired by writer and critic Patrick Neate.
